What we're listening for

We have not picked up the Hooded Merganser at the dock yet. The microphones stay on day and night, so the first time one calls within earshot it will appear here.

About the bird

The hooded merganser is a species of fish-eating duck in the subfamily Anatinae. It is the only extant species in the genus Lophodytes. The genus name derives from the Greek language: lophos meaning 'crest', and dutes meaning 'diver'.
