What we're listening for

We have not picked up the Semipalmated Plover at the dock yet. The microphones stay on day and night, so the first time one calls within earshot it will appear here.

About the bird

The semipalmated plover is a small plover. Charadrius is a Late Latin word for a yellowish bird mentioned in the fourth-century Vulgate. It derives from Ancient Greek kharadrios a bird found in ravines and river valleys.
