China New Buffet

Inland

A small-town Chinese buffet on Route 27 in Rockwood that punches above its category with fresh food and a genuinely warm staff.

China New Buffet is not trying to be anything it is not. The room is small with older booths that have the character of long use. The buffet bar is on the smaller side. What the place delivers consistently is hot food, a genuinely pleasant staff, and prices that reflect what a local buffet should cost. First-time visitors from out of town regularly leave pleasantly surprised.

The teriyaki chicken and honey chicken are the reasons to return. The lo mein is the most-praised single item on the bar. The food is fresh and well-stocked, with staff checking and replenishing the bar throughout service. The dining room plays Christian worship music. A carry-out bar option is available, sold by weight.

Takeout occasionally runs oily; the carry-out packaging is less ideal than the dine-in experience. For first visits, eating in the dining room is the better call.
